Celery seed may reduce sexual dysfunction in women

This randomized, double-blinded and placebo-controlled study aimed to investigate the effects of celery seeds in women with sexual dysfunction. 80 women have been enrolled. The supplementation consisted in 500 mg of celery seeds, thrice daily, for 6 weeks.

Results showed a significant improvement in the Female Sexual Function Index score with celery seeds in comparison to placebo (p < 0.001). This improvement was mainly due to improvements in the sexual desire (p < 0.001), arousal (p < 0.001), lubrication (p < 0.001) and pain (p = 0.033) domains of the questionnaire.

This study confirms therefore the traditional use of celery seeds in the Persian medicine as a natural aphrodisiac ingredient.
