A new botanical combination improves quality of life of menopausal women

This study examined the effects of a new botanical combination in menopausal women. The product containing 100 mg of soy isoflavones, 50 mg of Aframomum melegueta seed extract and 100 mg of Punica granatum skin extract. The study was randomized, double-blinded and placebo-controlled. Participants (n = 57) received their supplementation for 8 weeks.

The assessment of quality of life, by using the Cervantes scale, showed an improvement in supplemented women in comparison to placebo (p = 0.04). The menopause and health domains of this scale was improved in the supplemented women (p = 0.05), whereas no difference was noted regarding the psychic, sexuality and couple relationship sub-domains.

These results suggest therefore that a combination of soy isoflavones, A. melegueta extract and pomegranate extract may be effective to relieve menopausal symptoms and to improve quality of life of menopausal women.
