Europe : EFSA Guidance for establishing and applying tolerable upper intake levels for vitamins and essential minerals

EFSA has published on 24 January a new guidance for establishing and applying tolerable upper intake levels for vitamins and essential minerals.

To set maximum amounts of vitamins and minerals in fortified foods and food supplements, the Commission asked the EFSA to review some previous opinions on the ULs.

EFSA’s principles for establishing ULs for vitamins and minerals were originally developed by the Scientific Committee on Food (SCF) in 2000. Since then, experience has been gained and the scientific field developed. This new guidance provides an updated framework to support EFSA’s UL assessments.
